I walked along the local fields into heavy fine drizzle blown along by a brisk wind trying to convince myself that this is exactly when something juicy will turn up - unpleasant.
However, birds were at the post-Christmas sales - well Wrens were buying kitchen units.
Blackcaps were out buying... black caps.
Kingfisher were auditing B&Q where a stock check of Yellow Hammers was on their tick list.
Jays were quite fluid about the whole situation.
Rooks were playing chess......
