Frost on the car this morning as I hung about at home, for a while , waiting for the temperature to move up a bit.
The temperature did move up a bit , to 2 degrees or so , as I donned me boots and headed off for a walk to Ogden via The Hill.
It was dry and bright at times today with a very cold breeze with some east in it.
The walk was really enjoyable and I was ready for a coffee , Twix and me sarnies at Ogden 'cafe'. Coffee and Twix served by Pat & Steve (volunteers).
After the rest and the warm up I did a leisurely circuit of the water , spotting a Kingfisher the flew off from the metal railing in the sluice area, landing on a tree branch and disappearing behind the dark 'bridge thingy'.
School hols this week and although the car park was very full the circuit of the water had no awkward bits!
Ogden Water was pretty disappointing (again) with just the usual Gulls and Mallard.
A Raptor (Common Gull sized) very, very high > S - a few flaps then a glide then a few flaps was probably a Sparrowhawk or a Peregrine.
The flap Flap bit says Sparrowhawk but I think it was a Peregrine.... unless its a Gosh!!
Having not seen much on Soil Hill I thought I'd go back over Soil Hill again so I could 'not see much' again.
However , a Skylark that flushed from the very top was a plus.
The path was frozen in the 'soggy places' but NK pond was free of ice but it had no takers.
A Moorhen was in the grass nearby.
Birds:-
Kestrel.
Common Gull, Herring Gull (c20 In fields), Black Headed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull.
Heron.
Plenty of Woodpigeon.
Kingfisher.
Great Spotted Woodpecker.
Skylark.
Moorhen.
c50 Fieldfare with c80 Starlings seen from Taylor Lane.
A Buzzard over the house near dusk (17:15).
Many Gulls all > East at dusk - seen from the garden.
