Soil Hill - Black Redstarts

After missing out on DJS's excellent find of 2 Black Redstarts on Soil Hill yesterday  (I was in Wakefield buying Abi some Christmas Presents - yes I did say the C word) I decided to have a try for them this morning.

Fortunately for me I spied DJS's car on Percy Road , gave him a ring and as I set off to find him,  B.S. pulled up in his car.

I joined DJS and we had some very distant views of the Black Redstarts.

After a while we walked over the hill to get a better view meeting PB as he arrived here.

We ended up with some pretty good views of the birds and stood a while enjoying their presence before the cold strong wind made us move along.

DJS and PB left me to it and I ventured down the north slope - dare devil - what I am.

I stood about at the bottom tree line, and as I waited for something to happen, I ate a bag of crisps and a choc choc bar - my emergency rucksack vittles.

Some patience did pay off and a few birds flitted about in distant trees.

It's very overgrown down here and I did not venture further  down to '"The Bog" as I call it.

It was very calm and quiet down here as well.

Home was via a blustered Ned Hill Track and the farms and fields.
