Due to it persisting it down, our Ripponden ramble was
aborted in favour of Brighouse Canal / Cromwell Woods wander.
We went for a stroll on the canal today (well actual just
to the left of it) from Brookfoot – through the nature reserve – crossing the
road at Cromwell House Car Park and up the path towards Southowram and then
down through Cromwell Woods (The path opposite Cromwell House bears left at a
farm gate and a glorious walk through the wood ensues).
Birds Seen:-
Canada Goose, Mallard, Wren, Woodpigeon.
A pair of Teal was on the river by the bridge before the
feeding station and on the opposite side of the bridge a Dipper and Grey
Wagtail kindly made an appearance.
Also spotted:- Song Thrush, Blue, Great and Long Tailed
Tit, Blackbird, Cormorant 6, Chaffinch.
The feeders held only Blue and Great Tit no Redpoll or
Siskin to be seen.
On the path opposite Cromwell House Car Park a pair of
Mistle Thrush was in the fields and nearing the top of this path, before the
houses, a pair of Common Buzzard flew west. The camera was at the ready but the
guy behind the camera failed miserable to get a snap (I am such a crap shot I am thinking of volunteering to take
penalties for Man U.).
A Jay was calling in the trees further along.
It was unexpectedly bereft of bird life coming down
through Cromwell Woods, just a couple of Robin for company and the usual crow
types.
On return to the car a Great Crested Grebe was fishing on
Cromwell Water.
| Another stunning shot - this time a Common Buzzard. One day I'll master this camera. |
After closer inspection of this photo on my PC I believe I've actually got the blighter. Exactly half way across and half way between the lowest right hand branches. So onward and upward with my photo's!
A nice mixture of birds there John and a bonus with the Buzzard , I could even find it on the photo.
ReplyDeleteHi Brian,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment - I bet you found it on the photo a lot quicker that I did.
John.
