Knaresborough.

A couple of days away at Knaresborough.

Sunday 22/06/14.

On the journey there 3 Red Kites soaring together at the Pool/Leathley Road Junction. Also 2 further sighting nearer to Harewood.

I’ve been coming to Knaresborough for 4 years now and the Kites (believe it or not) are becoming quite commonplace. It’s only a matter of time before Ogden starts to get them regularly! If Ogden can boast a Wood Warbler (see NK blog) why not a Red Kite?

The usual Birkham woods / crop fields / River Nidd circular.

Birds seen:-

Difficult overcast, humid conditions making it especially dark in the woods (that's my excuse for the crap photography).

Mistle Thrush 3.
House Martin 8.
Swallow
Pied Wagtail
Singing Chiffchaff 7
Nuthatch
Willow Warbler 2
Long Tailed Tit
GSW
Song Thrush
Great Tit families throughout the woods
Treecreeper
Marsh Tit?
Many a Wren
Jay 2
Common Buzzard 3
Yellowhammer (heard but , oddly, not seen) 6
Whitethroat
Curlew
Red Legged Partridge
BHG
M. Pheasant
M. Bullfinch
Grey Wagtail.

Some even poorer (than normal) pictures:-

Fairly sure there is a Marsh Tit on the tree trunk.
Looks too dark in the photo?

Same picture cropped

  1. You would,nt think Knaresborough was only a few miles away with the difference in birds. Good report

  2. Wish I'd have got that lot! Problem with Red Kite and Ogden is the elevation; the habitat around the Otley-Knaresborough area is perfect for them. There is no need to climb another 700 feet or so to an area with limited tree cover and food source. Of course we do get the odd passage bird, thankfully.
