16:00 – 16:45
Sue and I took Emma to the Vue cinema in Halifax
to see the new Billy Connolly film ‘What we did on our holiday” – very enjoyable.
Later in the day I decided it would be a good idea to take a stroll up to Soil
Hill and back – not very enjoyable.
The good idea soon turned into a John Cleese silly
walk.
Soil
Hill.
A strong WNW wind blowing with driving rain, made
birding difficult with not much playing out.
I was beginning to think I wouldn’t see any birds at all when up popped
a F. Pheasant.
A dozen Meadow Pipit, M/F Mallard in the top ‘pond’
and a stunning count of 9 Carrion Crow and that was it.
Oh – a Common Gull in the reservoir field and a
Kestrel on a telegraph pole , completed the outing.
At least I got to put some birdseed down; the last
lot had gone (most probably a crows dinner).
As I write this, the weather's improving and the sun is trying to get through.
No doubt a Red-necked Phalarope is just landing on the Soil Hill track!

The
old rain coat looks kinda cute sat steaming on the kitchen chair.
Looks like a trip to the rub-a-dub-dub is in order this evening.
