First time out for a day or three for one reason or another.
Flying visit to Soil Hill on a beautiful sunny
day. Weather unusually warm for Soil Hill in November.
Not much stirring.

A cry from 2 Carrion Crow near the mast – maybe they
know dinner’s on the way.
Kestrel, 13 Meadow Pipit, 2 Camera shy Wren.
Lapwing feeding in the fields nearby.
Pheasant out in the open below the north slope.
Approaching
the north end of the stony track a strange bird type call? A one-off whistle heard.
Sounded like a dog whistle. Didn’t see the dog. Didn’t see the dog’s owner.
Didn’t see the whistle come to think of it.
A text from B.S. at 16:15 reporting a Snow Bunting
on S.H. had me make a return dash up there. However the light was nearly
non-existent by the time I got there so the odds on me spotting it were close to zero (they would be close to
zero in bright sunlight) however I had a quick look from the track but with nothing
moving I soon zoomed back home.
It’s just possible my photo of the 7 Mipits up
there today is actually 6 Mipits & a Snow Bunt!
On Perseverance , on the way to RF, an Owl was
calling. Most prob. the little owl that resides near there.
Raggalds Flood.
Wasted journey really. Water still present with
just a solitary Wren seen nearby.
On the way home Starlings sitting in the sun on
the pylon wires.
A few birds in the tree opposite our house, looked
like Starling from a distance but didn’t look like Starling when they flew off?

These birds looked a bit Starling like?
But they don't resemble Starling in flight?
I think they may be Goldfinch?
Sorry the pics are so poor
James Bond's stunt double over Bradshaw.
Practicing for the remake of Goldeneye - coming to Ogden soon.
Just missed you on the hill John but the light was going and the birds gone to ground.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will hang around with the Mipits , if they stay.
Your birds are, as you say, Goldfinch.
Cheers Bri.
ReplyDeleteHope it finds some nyjer seed for supper.
