Jay House Lane to Brown Horse at Coley

It was a very cold and very foggy morning in Bradshaw so I ditched the usual hike and persuaded Sue to drop me at Jay House Lane on her way to collect Abigail for swimming.
Following the recent Calderdale Bird Blog I was hoping for Golden Plover before hiking back towards home. What I didn’t expect was a bewildering spectacle with birds too numerous (for me) to estimate.
I spent an hour or so having a wander around as large flocks of Redwing and Fieldfare: Starling, Lapwing and Golden Plover moved between the fields.
The light was fairly poor making the photos non too great.
The Plover and Lapwing flocks were not easy to get close to, as soon as I approached within one fields distance of them, feeding, they would move on to another field 500 yards or so away. I did not want to disturb them too much anyway.
There must be plenty of things for them to eat here!
The homeward bound walk was rewarded with a Kingfisher at the ford just before the main Baliff Bridge road.

Birds:-

Tree SparrowReed Bunting,  Redwing, Fieldfare, Starling, Lapwing, Golden Plover, Moorhen, Woodpigeon, BHG, Common Gull, Blue tit, Great tit, Robin, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, LTT, Kingfisher and others!

I kept to the Lanes and Roads on the trek towards home:-

Route Back:

Jay House Lane – Wellholme Park – Baliff Bridge – Hipperholme – Knowle Top Road – Syke Lane – Priestley Green (Site of a Nightjar sighting 20 years ago – not by me though) – Northedge Lane – Soper House Lane – The Brown Horse at Coley  (outside alas) was where Sue picked me up.
