Ponden, Leeshaw & Leeming

A check around a few of the Reservoirs late morning / early afternoon.

Ponden.

Weather hit and miss here breezy with showers off and on.
2 Muscovy Duck, White Domesticated Goose, Jackdaw, A single Lapwing, BHG, No Common Gull?, Pheasant, Heron, 4 Moorhen, Carrion Crow, Woodpigeon, Kestrel and the usual Mallard Brigade.

Leeshaw.

Lots of Landy 4X4 ‘Rickers’ coming down off the moor making a discreet pee a problem!
3 Cormorant.
As the weather worsened a paltry count of 3 small gulls expanded into 100 plus on the water and nearby fields.5 Pheasant, Mallard.
A group of  30 +, then another group of 50+ Starling over.
Then a group of 100 + Starling, feeding then flying in a wide circle before feeding again - most probably made up from the two previous groups plus a few.

Leeming 13:15 (ish)

Very wet with the wind strength increasing.
However at the north end of the Res. it was eerily calm.
A problem opening the car door with the wind, then a problem holding on to it!
A total of 4 BGH! Mallard, Kestrel,.
Robin (smaller birds surprisingly hard to come by).

Then the birds of the day a pr. Goosander.
The female Goosander giving a strange tail display which I did not think was being caused by the wind strength.

Ponden:

Unusual to see Gulls on branches

Unusually dark coloured Grey Heron?

Leeshaw:

Leeming:

Strange Tail Display?

  1. The Goosander has put its tail up as a sail to save its legs from paddling, just made that up!
Had your 2 Black Muscovys on Leeshaw this morning which at first sight I thought they were Scoters.

  2. Good job you added 'just made that up' bit on your comment or you would have had me hook, line & sinker there Bri.
