A Foggy Day – so off to Coach Road

Bradshaw was enveloped in murk this morning, leaving Soil Hill and Ogden out of the question, so Sue and I had a trip to Coach Road (Hipperholme End).

We took a diversion off the main track turning second right on a path above the golf course.  Sue soon spotted a Great Spotted Woodpecker in a large tree. It soon made its exit into the smaller trees though.

We had a general mosey about here, where there are lots of small bushes and trees with some open rough ground.

There were lots of Blue and Great Tit here. A Song Thrush was singing in the thicker bushes. Chaffinch and Goldfinch were in good number and there were C6 Redwing feeding in the fields. A pair of Bullfinch and a pair of Greenfinch were in the trees hereabouts. LTT were feeding in good numbers we were lucky enough to see two lots of 6 or so.

Eventually we passed below the football field to reach a track that led down to a road. Turning left here brought us to a field next to the road where there were 2 Mistle Thrush and c6 Redwing feeding with some Goldfinch. Also in the trees here, a secretive Jay.

The Crow Nest Golf Club entrance was at the bottom of  the road. We headed up Coach Road towards the car. Soon Sue heard a bird drumming and she spotted a Pr of Great Spotted Woodpecker in the trees. I managed to get a photo although not a very good one – the murky weather not helping.

Nice to see two birders from Boothtown, on the lookout for the illusive LSW,I  hope they had better luck then we had.

We sauntered up coach road to the car and called at the Lightcliffe tea rooms before going home.

Some pics:-
Decent photos difficult to come by today (nothing new there!)

  1. A good walk round there on a poor day. I think you must have The Birders Guide to Tea Rooms.

  2. Got to keep Sue in the manner she was accustomed to, before she met me.
I buy her a bun AND coffee some days.
