Today started with a visit to Queensbury M.O.T.
Garage to pick up my car. B.S. informed me that Pinkies were on their way from
Brighouse. As I arrived home at Bradshaw Sue was pointing skyward. About 120 Pinkies were overhead as I parked the car and Sue had the phone camera to hand snapping
away!
A pretty impressive photo from a phone camera.

Later on we had a visit to Springfield Mills. 300
Yds below the Flappit Inn on Haworth Road we stopped the car to take some pics
of a large flock of small gulls that were making the most of the farmers’ ‘fertiliser’. I tried to capture most of the flock in a series of pics. in case there is a megga in there, and I've included them on my blog - sorry if they clog up your computer when loading!
I've checked through the pictures but they are a bit overwhelming for me!
Picture No: 8 has a possible candidate with a larger looking gull near the front - but it's most probably a Common Gull.

On the way home c6 Heron were roosting in the tree tops.
Birds(Bingley):-
3 Moorhen, F. Goosander on the canal and a possible M.
Goosander in flight later on. At least 6 Bullfinch, 2 Pheasant, c6 Greenfinch,
Mistle Thrush, 3 LTT, c20 Goldfinch, Goldcrest and others.

10 out of 10 for Sue for not only spotting them but getting the photos as well, we,ll have to sign her on the team.
ReplyDeleteFlappit Springs and Cullinworth fields are where all the white wings turn up but as you can see, its a long steady job going through them all and a scope is a must.
With hindsight I should have taken the photos further down the road.
ReplyDeleteThen the gulls would have been seen more from the side than from the front.
But still quite a sight for me, so many gulls in one place.
