After this mornings hike in the hot sunshine at
Hollingworth Lake,
(the details of which are on a separate blog page)
Sue
dropped me at Ogden this evening for a leisurely stroll.
17:00
I took a walk down Union Road and dropped down
between the houses there to arrive at the stream. I had a mosey about going towards
the Golf Club and back towards Ogden on a higher path. I’m fairly sure I got 2 Tree Pipit here, although the light was against me for one of them. I waited a good 15 mins for
the sun to came out from behind a small cloud. All this time the bird sat preening
itself. When the sun popped out the bird popped off! Charming!
The water was very, very quiet with just 8 Canada
Goose and a few Mallard.
It was nice to see my first Mallard Ducklings (8 in
all) on the water. The Herons will be back soon no doubt!
Curlew were calling from the moor as I sat on a
bench and had a sarnie for tea.
A pair of Dunnock was performing a strange courting
routine – most odd.
I counted 7 Willow Warbler and a couple of
Chiffchaff on the circuit.
A long look for the Dipper at the intake stream
proved futile, not helped by someone lobbing a big stick into the water for his
pooch to go and get – selfish or what – that’s me being selfish I may add.
A Green Woodpecker was calling hereabouts and also a
Woodpecker was drumming – not sure if it was the same bird.
A Song Thrush sat proudly on a tree top singing and
I heard a Nuthatch call and that was about it.
A visit to Bradshaw Park Crown Green Bowling club
was followed by a visit to the Fleece, with neighbour John bowler and pool player extraordinaire
.
I seemed to have a real thirst and much more Guinness
went down the old cake hole than was prudent – I’m a bit woolly this morning!
Ah well its time to take Emma and Sue shopping so
see ya’ll later.
The least risque of my pics!!!
Some lovely shots there John.
ReplyDeleteMeadow Pipits there John, bit hot for trekking around today.
