Ponden

11:00 – 14:30

I decided to have a good saunter around the Ponden area today.
First I had a trip out towards Ponden Kirk and then a walk along the Pennine/Bronte Way up onto the moors towards Haworth.
After a break for a sandwich I had a good look around the old Ponden Mill/Café area and then a short nosey along the Millenium Way path by the stream beyond the main road exit from Ponden.

A lovely bright day, with some of the walk  undertaken without wearing a coat!!

Birds:-

5 Oystercatcher, 2 Pr. Greylag Goose both with 4 Gosling, Pheasant, 5 Mistle Thrush, 2 Curlew 1, flying (one with an ‘odd’ call), 3 Song Thrush, Swallow (no Swift), 4 Moorhen, Dunnock, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Willow Warbler.

A solitary unid bird on a field wall that I though was a Curlew but not sure looking at the picture.

Robin, Many a Meadow Pipit, Red Grouse,  Kestrel, Cuckoo calling from west of Ponden Water, 3 Pied Wagtail, Grey Wagtail, Treecreeper, Heron, Wren,Woodpigeon, Blackcap, Mallard with young.

Beautiful colours on the moor

I thought this was a Curlew at first?

So far I've only ever flushed Snipe and ID'd them by there mannerisms.
A great bonus for me - a halfdecent photo.
    Thanks again.
