Flaming June

9:55

I ‘enjoyed’ the usual jaunt to Queensbury play gym, on a typical November morning. Mist and drizzle with a good heavy shower thrown into the mix.
On Bradshaw Lane there were a few Goldfinch, Greenfinch, 4 Swallow and at the top by the Raggalds a Pied Wagtail was feeding its young.

Near busy A629, oblivious to the road noise, a Lapwing was standing amongst the Buttercups. Buttercups are everywhere this year - they are not much good for hay apparently.

On Lowe Lane the drizzle made a lasting appearance and a Pied Wagtail, a few Goldfinch, Meadow Pipit, Linnet and a LBBG > W kept me company during my Yomp.

The day was warmer than I thought and behind the Junction Pub a Great Spotted Woodpecker was calling as I removed my big jumper and stowed it in my rucksack.

4 LBBG (incl 2 juv) (juv is best I can do) were perched on a barn roof keeping 15 corvids and 4 Magpies company.
A few LBBG > W in ones during the morning.
2 Swift were battling the elements feeding flying low.
Along the cycle track heavy rain made an appearance along with 3 Linnet, 5 Woodpigeon, Pheasant, 2 Chiffchaff and several Swallow were flying under large trees feeding.
A small family of Great Tit were in the small bushes by the track and a Willow Warbler was singing and a Collard Dove sat getting wet.

A very friendly young Labrador came along looking to see if I'd anything nice to eat. I managed to keep my extra mega rucksack snacky yum-yum treat out of reach.
The bins and camera had to head into the rucksack at the bottom of Station Road as the rain became more unforgiving.

A poor day for birds, birders , bloggers and blog readers!!!

Ah well its time for drawing castles with Abigail -  Elsa & Anna from Frozen will no doubt be included somewhere.

A donkey joke (sorry):

travelling salesman is walking past a pub and notices a sign outside :-
"Anyone that can make my donkey laugh can have free beer and a free lunch"

The  salesman enters the pub and says to the landlord
"I'm here for the donkey challenge - where is this donkey that I'm going to make laugh then?"

"Out back" says the landlord.

The man goes out the back door and soon the landlord hears his donkey laughing - like a hyena actually.

The salesman claims his rewards and has a free afternoon's booze and lunch.

2 years pass and the same salesman is passing the same pub again.

This time the sign reads:-

"Anyone that can make my donkey cry can have free beer and a free lunch"

The  salesman enters the pub and says to the landlord
"I'm here for the donkey challenge - where is this donkey that I'm going to make cry then?"

"NOT YOU AGAIN. It's Out back, you know where" says the landlord.

The man goes out the back door and soon the landlord hears his donkey crying- like a hyena actually.

The salesman claims his rewards and has a free afternoon's booze and lunch.

Just as the salesman is leaving the landlord says
"Ok spill the beans - how did you do it".

"Easy, Peasy says the salesman"

For the first challenge, I told the donkey that my Todger was bigger than his.

For the second challenge I just showed the donkey it!

  2. Hi Andy
I have seen max 6 Lapwing. They are normally in the fields near the beginning of Low or Low(e) Lane (The lane that runs down to the Junction Pub at Scholes).
I've not seen any young, but the Lapwing were active in discouraging corvids that came near, a few weeks ago.

Today's Lapwing was in a field at the top of Pit Lane - a couple of fields south of normal.
I've not seen any Curlew in Bradshaw. Nearest Curlew sighting is on the moors beyond Ogden.
