Oats Royd

12:50 - 14:30 - Friday

A hot sultry afternoon with intermittent nuisance showers saw me taking the path down to Oats Royd.

On the way there a Sparrowhawk flew into the trees opposite the Bradshaw Cricket club.

Young swallow were sitting on the wire fence waiting to be fed - a nice sight to see.
A couple of Linnet and a couple of Meadow Pipit were flitting about on the walls near the Calderdale Way cross path.
Near the stream 4 juv. Whitethroat were calling and flitting about.
A couple of juv. Bullfinch were on the fence but left immediately when they eyeballed moi.
Near the ponds a F. Bullfinch was in the trees.
It was good to see a Moorhen with chick on the first pond.
Also here 2 Canada Goose and a nice surprise a Grey Wagtail, but it left before I got the camera on it.

The path by the ponds is very picturesque at the moment with the gorse in full bloom (or is it Whin?).

Willow Warbler & Chiffchaff were singing and I got a fleeting glance of a non-singing M. Blackcap (no pic alas).

A Kestrel flew over and a Robin was feeding young.

Also seen 8 Woodpigeon, 2 Swift, 16 Swallow , 4 Collard Dove, Juv. Goldfinch, 4 Greenfinch, 6 Blackbird.

I was nearly home when two huge gulls went over towards Oats Royd from Bradshaw Lane, one was calling. I managed a poor pic. possibly GBBG ?
