It was another scorcher and another tour around the local area on
the hunt for Tree Pipit. If past form is anything to go by I've got Meadow
Pipit!!
11:00 Odgen
A tour of the water brought the usual
suspects my way. Willow Warbler & Chiffchaff singing, 6 Canadas, 3 separate
families of Mallard with one, four &
eight Ducklings.
A Green Woodpecker was calling from far
away at the north end of the reservoir. Wren singing and a very skittish Heron,
a Juv. I think.
13:00 Golf Course Area
Not as much birdsong as I was hoping for.
A few Meadow Pipit were in Trees and a few
more on walls.
I managed a fairly lousy pic of one in the trees a long way off.
Second Green Woodpecker calling a couple
of times from very near the Golf Course. The second call only 20yds away but I
still didn't eyeball the G.W.
A Jay close by may have instigated the Woodpecker call.
A weasel ran across the track or was it a
Golden Ferret.
A Kestrel was hunting above the Golf course.
The best of the bunch today was a singing Reed
Bunting.
It took me 15 mins to locate it, even though it sang for the whole 15 mins!
A walk home via Brockholes , Peat Pits and
Oats Royd (where a noisy dog was being lobbed a stick) was a poor do , with just
Collard Dove, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Greenfinch and a Heron - flushed by
the dog - and a few others was as good as it got.
Halifax Gala with Granddaughter tomorrow
so it’s forced to pour down.
This bird was a possible Tree Pipit contender, but alas no song, and it flew from a tree a lot nearer than this one, before I got the camera on it - ah well must improve!
Oats Royd Area
A Kite but not Red
There are some lovely colours down here at the moment
Ogden : Another stunning video:
Possible Garden Warbler but the song was soon interrupted by a Chaffer.
