I was hospital taxi today, taking my little sis to
the very ‘local’ Huddersfield Hospital this morning. They were running an hour
late at 11:00 am so it was not too bad.
I donned the waterproofs and managed a trip to Ogden after tea. The sky went dark
then grey then black but amazingly it never rained on me so maybe my earlier Good
Samaritan bit was rewarded.
Ogden 17:25 – 20:15 (Tuesday)
Golf
Course Area.
On the golf course a couple of Pied Wagtail were
feeding on the practice green.
Just after leaving the “Mixenden” footpath sign a
Whitethroat was heard but not seen.
4 Swallow were feeding low down and a few Meadow
pipit were on the walls and fence posts.
On a walk near here yesterday NK had pointed out a
likely site for Whinchat so I was on the look out and I was soon rewarded when
a beautiful Whinchat
flew past then perched obligingly near the top of a small bush – a pretty
common bird for a lot of birders but a lifer for me - brilliant.
Roosting in the trees here were c45 Woodpigeon and a Reed Bunting was calling/singing from high in a far off tree.
Also about several Goldfinch, c10 Linnet and a Greenfinch.
Ogden Water.
Ogden Water did its best to dampen my euphoria but
failed.
On the water 14 Canada Goose, 19 BHG, No LBBG on the
water but 2 flew over > N. The Tufted duck has re-appeared.
Just 2 Chiffchaff and a single Willow Warbler were
in tonight’s chorus.
A Heron flew clumsily over the high pines.
It’s amazing how one special bird sp. can lift the
spirits – pity they can't bottle it.
Talking of such, now where is the bottle opener , I have call to celebrate.
