Ilkley - The River Wharf

We enjoyed a trip to the Ilkley shops and a short stroll on the river, past the tennis club for a mile or two, this aft.
Cool, damp and cloudy to start, then bright warm sunshine for main course and a pint of Guinness for dessert.
3 young lads were paddling in the river by the golf course. They had managed to find 32 golf balls.

The birdlife was disappointing. I normally see (at least) Common Sandpiper, Dipper & Goosander – but non of those today.

The highlight of the day was when a Kingfisher made a sudden appearance flying downstream before issuing a high pitched “dog whistle” call and abruptly doing a U turn to fly back upstream.

Birds:-

Black Headed Gull, Sand Martin, Swallow, House Martin (but no Swift).
A Grey Heron was far off at the edge of a field disguised as a plastic bag – at least I think it’s a Grey Heron.

2 Moorhen, 2 Mandarin Duck, 2 Grey Wagtail, 2 Pied wagtail, 2 Oystercatcher and that was about it really.
