We are just back from a short break in St. Anne’s
nr. Blackpool.
The wheelchair push with Emma and the non-stop disco
dancing with Abigail,4 7/8th (going on 18 years) was taking
its toll. The old legs had threatened a ‘walk out’ if this level of punishment continued!
So when the weather threatened to change on
Wed. afternoon Sue, Emma and Abigail headed to the Pier while I had half an
hour on the wet sand in the drizzle with bins and camera.
Birds:-
I’ll get my excuses in early doors.
I don’t get to see many Waders on the local Pennine beaches,
so my wader i.d. should be taken with a large dose of ‘Saxo’.
I’ve looked at the BTO site video of Dunlin and I’ve
also consulted 4 good birding books so now I’ve got 90% information and 10% gumption so I’m sure to lead you down
the garden path!
I
believe I’ve got:-
Sandwich Tern, Dunlin juv and adult, Ringed Plover, BHG and LBBG.
If I've missed something or if I am way off the mark, any comments, to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

The Dunlin is a delight to watch as they scurry
along the beach, proddle about in a pool for a while and then off they go again
- a bit like Abigail.
Even the BHG stands in pools trading the water,
hoping to disturb some tasty sea mollusc instead of waiting for some bread
(although I managed a snap that contradicts this).
A
word of advice:
If
you are asked to stand on the dance floor, with your hands behind your back, while the children's D.J. lobs Marsh Mallows at you – try not to be a smart-arse and catch the first
one in your petite gob(ette)!
If
you do , embarrassment will surely follow –
me and my big mouth.
me and my big mouth.
(Perhaps
I was a BHG in a previous incarnation).

Getting good with the birds John, could do with some of those waders over here.
ReplyDeleteI've got a long, long way to go yet Bri.
ReplyDeleteWaders (& Gulls).......... it's like telling twins apart.
John.
Some nice Sanderling as well John - well done
ReplyDeleteSanderling pictures 2 and 3 John and there's another picture (Can't remember which one) where you have a Sanderling and Dunlin together.
ReplyDeleteCheers Dave,
ReplyDeleteI think the Sanderlings were the ones running very quickly, then, not the Dunlin as I thought.
