I enjoyed a break from the decor hating today
and I did my usual walk, on a glorious hot sunny afternoon, around Bradshaw,
Soil Hill and Ogden and back.
The walk started out very promising with a
Juv. Green Woodpecker first calling from trees, then landing on a nearby telegraph pole
on the bridleway up to Taylor Lane.
On Soil Hill I dropped some Snow Bunt jock
on the track, and as I was leaving the track at the north end, I was rewarded with
a sighting of a Common Snipe .
It left the track sharpish and landed near the muck heaps.
I had the camera at the ready but missed it by a whisker.
After that it was a pint of the usual with
the smaller birds playing hide and seek on the Ogden circuit.
Before reaching Ogden, however, there were
2 Kestrel (I believe) flying together in a display? and calling (with a high
pitched call).
Birds:-
Green Woodpecker.
Goldfinch (3), (12), (4), (1).
Meadow Pipit (8),(2),
Common Snipe. Canada Goose. (16),(21),
Woodpigeon, (4),( 2), Kestrel,(2). Small Gulls c120
Cormorant, Jay.
Common Snipe going right just out of shot?

Well spotted with the snipe and woodpecker John cheers the day up mate and I like the Cormorant shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave.
ReplyDeleteI've yet to get a Soil Hill Snipe in a photo although I'm getting better at being prepared.
Trouble is , the camera gets3 seconds to focus, before the Snipe is off.
