Soil Hill and Ogden

Lunch at the Moorlands today with an old mate from work, but beforehand I had a walk over Soil Hill and a look around Ogden Water.

Soil Hill

9:45

It was a near Gale force wind on the tops. I dropped some Nyger seed on the path and had a good scan about for Ring Ouzel (or anything else!).
Just 2 Crow, 3 Magpie and a Single Meadow Pipit.
I had a look for the deer but was out of luck there too.
Coming through the field after the plantation 5 Canada Geese nearly took my head off – they must have been flying very low!

Ogden:

I had a chance meeting with N.K. doing the rounds, it sounded like S.H. had just been as unkind to him as it had been to me earlier.
I didn’t spot much at Ogden either.
Its amazing what difference a couple of days rain makes, the water levels are much improved, nearly back to normal now.
A few Gulls dotted about the water with no Mallard at the feeding area on my arrival, they were dotted about along the waters’ edge.
A group of Tits were feeding and moving along together – Blue, Great, Coal and Long Tailed all seen.
A Great Spotted Woodpecker called and made a very brief appearance, so brief I though for a moment I’d got a lifer in a Lesser – but it was too big.
It didn’t stop for the photo shoot either.

That was it really.

As I legged it to the Moorlands, a pleasant surprise awaited me, at Slack Field or Springfield depending upon which of the 2 signs you prefer.
There were 5 Red Legged Partridge, hunkered down, next to some reeds in the fields near the house.

Not a bad day weather wise after all the rain we have had of late.

Just 5 of the old turbines left

1st measuring pole completely submerged now.

  2. Thanks Dave.
I missed a few goodies on the Ogden circuit earlier (and I've just got some new varifocal specs).
Missing your blogs and bumping into you - time you retired!
