Bingley 5 Rise Locks and Raggalds Flood

With reports of Waxwing near Raistrick earlier in the week we decided to give Bingley canal a try in case any had arrived here. I have seen Waxwing, here, in the bushes by the canal in previous years but no luck today.

We enjoyed a short walk from the 5 Rise Locks area to beyond Micklethwaite and back – alas the 5 Rise Locks cafĂ© was closed for holidays so we tried the cafe at the garden centre, just before Cullingworth Village. The car park here was jam packed – Santa was there by the looks of it, so we make a detour to Cullingworth Springfield Mill for our caffeine fix today.

It was an improving day as we walked along the canal with some bright spells in amongst. There were just the usual birds about today the highlight being a fly past of 2 Male Goosander.

Raggalds Flood 15:15

We stopped for a quick peek at Raggalds Flood on the way home.
The flood is well stocked with water but there was not one bird on the deck - a first for me.
The visit was not completely bereft of birds as c30 Lapwing did a lap of honour but did not land.

A few pics:-
