A tour of the local reservoirs

It was a wild and windy day today with the wind blowing spray off Ogden water and creating a mini rainbow.

The worst of the gale was reserved for Leeshaw where it was difficult to stand and hold the camera steady.
However a young lady jogger did jog past as she went, albeit slowly, up the track to the moors.

Ogden 11:50

25 Small gulls, Mallard, 1 Cormorant, A few Blackbird and Robin and a pr. Wren (1 singing loudly).

Leeshaw 13:00

Difficult conditions today in the gale and all the birds were on the very far shoreline, but at least the light was a bit better today.
The Goosander just stayed in the open long enough for me to get a photo, before they too took shelter under the banking, out of sight.
4 Cormorant, 9 ish Canada Goose, 1 BHG!, 3 Greylag Goose,
Pr. Goosander.

Lower Laithe was bereft of life.

Ponden – The water looked to have a few Mallard.

There are major works taking place here at the moment and with this and the water being so choppy I gave my usual 30 minute walk about a miss today.

Leeming 13:55

Leeming is my favourite of the Oxenhope reservoirs but even it failed to impress today.

Kestrel, Rook, Mallard, 3 Domesticated Geese on the water, 11 Small Gulls.
A Heron was flying high over the moors to the east of T.M.R. Probably being mobbed by a Kestrel.

2 Cormorants circled and came down to land at the South end as I was about to leave.

The circular walk around the reservoir fields was disappointing with the usual proliferation of small birds keeping out of the wind and out of sight.

  4. I was pleased to get Goosander at Leeshaw. It's been bereft of birds of late.
I had a look for the Goldies from the car at Upper Marsh but didn't see any.
