Jay House Lane Area

Abigail had a 5th birthday party to attend this morning at Birkenshaw and after the party, when we had dropped her back home at Heckmondwike, I decided to call at Jay House Lane on the way home.

I did not have my bins today but a short stop at the top of the lane revealed 2 Mistle Thrush and several Meadow Pipit in the fields.

We had a quick stop at the pond looking for the Green Sandpiper but failed to locate it.
Then followed a quick trip to Tesco (where we were greeted with a 34 Canada Goose fly past). After we had a look around squelchy Wellhome Park.

Wellhome Park held 3 Jay and a few small birds and we bumped into a couple, Jeff and Susan who kindly took me back up to the pond to show me the Green Sandpiper.

A good coat of looking at the pond area, for maybe an hour, still failed to locate the bird.

Jeff seemed a bit gutted as he had seen it on every visit he had made previously – must be the curse of the Bradshaw Rambler.

There were quite a few birds here:-

Robin, Mallard, 3 Pied Wagtail, Grey Wagtail, Jay, Pheasant, Woodpigeon and maybe Stock Dove – not sure , Mistle Thrush, 2 Moorhen, Greenfinch and hundreds of Jackdaw by the sound of them.

  3. Hi-up Dave.
    Remember "Ring-o" on Soil Hill.
You were up and down yonder hill - never seen as much perspiration on somebody - and I walk 20 yds leisurely along the top path and what pops up - Ring-O.

Have a good day as they say.😂
