It was another very wet and windy morning and with a
few errands to run I thought I’d take the camera along, just in case.
First stop was Birdcage Lane area where I had a peek
at the feeders at Ing Royde.
There was a good selection of birds in the garden
with Great Spotted Woodpecker taking first prize. Other birds were Nuthatch, Song
Thrush, Chaffinch, Blue & Great Tit , Robin and Blackbird.
An acrobatic Jackdaw was helping itself to the food
in the fat ball feeders.
A trip to Brighouse was next and, on the way there,
a kingfisher flew across the Elland to Brighouse road.
We made a 10 min. detour to Jay House Lane.
This Sandpiper is becoming quite an obsession with me,with this visit
being my third visit in a few days.
This visit proved futile, like all the previous ones, with no sign of
the Sandpiper.
A f. Bullfinch was in the trees nearby and there was at least 7
Stock Dove and over a dozen Magpie in the fields, when an extremely heavy
cloudburst sent us scurrying to a café in Brighouse for a lunchtime bacon butty
– another obsession at the moment!
On the way home we stopped at Queensbury Celtic , Pit Lane football pitch
where there was a large flock of c130 Lapwing hunkered down with a large flock
of Staring (possibly 350 birds in two groups) feeding.
I did not see any Goldies in with the Lapwing but,
here again, a heavy squally shower sent me running for cover – wimp!!
Raggalds Flood looked bereft of wildlife as I passed
on the way to Kelham Farm Shop.
I
was told a joke last night in the Fleece, just before I and my neighbour John got
a real drubbing by Stewart ,at Pool – we're not inviting Stewart again – these Queensburyites
- they have no decorum.
In order to be invited back they need to loose a game now and then.
Joke:
What
is the difference between a Hippo and a Zippo?
One
is a big heavy animal and the other’s a little lighter.
At least I found someone who can tell worse jokes than me.
Roll on the dry weather when I can, hopefully, get my walking boots on again.
Come out, come out wherever you are.
A wild and windy football field
Good Lapwing count John
