10:10 - 12:30.
It was a bitterly cold morning with a
light snow shower for company on Soil Hill.
36 Small Gulls were in the Bonnet fields, mostly Common Gulls.
A Black Headed Gull had a strange black plumage around it's eye.

Soil Hill 10:30 - 11:30.
I dropped some birdseed on the track and
spent an hour moseying about hoping for Snow Bunt. with the NNE breeze.
It was very dull with poor visibility
today.
Just 6 Skylark with 3 singing high in the
sky.
I was eventually treated to a Buzzard (being
harassed by a crow) on its way towards T.M.R.
As I arrived at the north end of Ned Hill
Track (11:25) I saw a large flock of birds (possibly 50) way, way off in the
gloom >NW probably Lapwing but who knows.
A walk down the main Keighley Road
revealed 20 Woodpigeon in the fields opp. Causy Foot Inn.
There were Dunnock, Great & Blue Tit,
Chaffinch, and 5 Greenfinch in the trees by Bradshaw School.
It looks like Greenfinch is making a
comeback with more than usual seen over the last week or so.
2 Canada Goose were on the Bradshaw Park
pond.
At least I got to see a Pinkie when I got
home - Abigail's pet!!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the text.
Med gull. A great find John, you did well to notice that there was something odd about it, you could easily have dismissed it with the other gulls. Thanks to NK for starting the ball rolling with I.D.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking your time and NK. checking the photo.
ReplyDeleteI just took some pics of all the gulls to look at later.
The photo is a poor one alas.
John
BH Gulls are always a bit tricky at this time of year as they change from winter to summer plumage. This black mask looks perfect for Med Gull but it is a BH GUll.The size structure and head shape are all wrong for Med Gull. But keep looking as there is a Med Gull out there...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments Andy.
