Bradshaw and St. Annes

We were planning to go to St Annes, late Sunday afternoon, but I managed to nip down to Oats Royd for 30 minutes.

I was hoping to find my "large" Meadow Pipit and get another look and some photos of it.
(I had not read B.S.'s comment at that point!!)

I was perplexed by the Pipit and the way it had its bill open, looking as if it was exhausted - I don't know what I was hoping to turn it into though.

Anyway, the bird did not appear, and my available birding time disappeared very quickly, leaving me to legit home in a rush to keep on the right side of 'er in doors.

I did manage a picture of a Pied Wagtail on the Bradshaw Bowing Green.!!

********************************************************************************

We enjoyed a couple of days away near St. Annes - the highest temperature in the UK allegedly - the strong wind however made it feel really cool.

Near to where we were staying at Saltcoats Lane, near Lytham there was a flooded marshy area where there were many Lapwings and some other waders.

As per usual they were quite a distance away from the nearest access point but I did get some ticks for my 2016 list but not any good photographs.

A wader flew in to land, at a distance. I thought at first it was an Oystercatcher with the flight pattern and extensive white plumage visible.

However, when the bird landed, I believe it was a Godwit - the extensive white plumage made me plump for Black-tailed Godwit.

The photograph, from such a distance, makes a positive ID impossible for me, so I won't be getting any ticks from it!!!

Birds:-

Lesser Black Gull, Great Black Backed Gull, Shoveler, Shelduck, Teal and a few others.
and a  Wheatear was feeding on the sloping sea wall near the Windmill at Lytham.
