Bradshaw – Soil Hill – Ogden – Ned Hill Road – Bradshaw

Soil Hill 12:30 – 14:00

A cold day, after the warm spell.

A trip up the bridleway opposite our house saw me walking about Taylor lane like a burglar.

A “bird call” was coming from the conifers where the bridleway meets Taylor Lane.
A “bird call” that I’d not heard before.

After strutting about for 15 mins, from one end of the hedge to the other trying to see the blighter, I decided to call B.S. to see if he could hear and identify the bird call, if I held my Telling Bone in the air!!

All he got was the sound of the wind!

After another 10 minutes strut about and I gave up the ghost.

Walking up to Soil Hill I began to doubt my sanity and thougt that the “bird call” might actually be the faint remnant of a house alarm – I really am loosing it.

Hope you can here the "bird call" on  the video.

On the way to Soil Hill there was a Kestrel and a Pheasant seen.
Soil Hill had the usual birds again, Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Lapwing, Pied Wagtail & Mallard.

14:00 – 14:30

On the way to Ogden there were a couple of singing Chiffchaff and a Skylark.
I spent a while on Coal Lane taking a photo of a splendid falcon shaped stone!
There were 2 Roe Deer about, a Curlew flew over and a Pheasant and Meadow Pipit were seen.

14:30 Ogden

Ogden Water was disappointing with 8 Canada Geese, Mallard, Chiffchaffs, calling Curlew, Willow Warbler and a Jay.
Another bizarre photo – this time of what turned out to be a plastic bag, far off on the NW shore, disguised as an Oystercatcher (I am loosing it).
A Coal Tit, Pheasant and a Pr. Lesser Black Backed Gull completed the afternoon outing.

Nothing of note was seen on the return journey, but at least the “bird call” had stopped as I passed a second time!!

  2. Thanks for the interest Bri.
Sorry the sound is so awful.
It's not Wryneck or Nightjar anyway - most probably a wonky alarm!!
Good luck over the weekend, wrap up well
