We had a run out to Burnsall for a walk along the
river and some bird watching today.
The temperature reached a balmy 20° and the birds
were out and about as well.
We were very pleased to get photos of a few
favourites and there were plenty of regulars with over 40 different species
seen today.
We also had the bonus of watching a Dipper
collecting moss from the river stones and building it’s nest in the craggy
cliff face.
It was pleasing to see Sand Martin, House Martin,
Swallow and Swift in the same area.
Top of the shop were 2 Redstart in a tree by the
river, quite a few Spotted Flycatchers and a couple of Common Sandpiper bobbing
about on the stones.
There was many Pied Wagtail and a few Grey Wagtail
but I did not get the elusive Yellow Wagtail.
We had a report of a few Kingfishers gorging themselves
on Trout Minnow, apparently, near the “Tents will be shifted” sign.
The Minnow were near a sand bank and the Kingfishers
were picking them off with ease.
The Kingfishers had, had lunch when we got there,
and were nowhere to be seen unfortunately.
We spent a long time trying to locate a Green
Woodpecker calling loudly from nearby.
We eventually saw it as it flew off and landed on
the trunk of a conifer.
