We had a run out this afternoon to East Riddlesden
Hall near Bingley.
The
Car Park is free and there is a quaint café and a pleasant (if short) riverside
path and a large picnic area.
There
is a charge of £7.00 (ish) per adult to look around the house.
Mr
and Mrs Rothschild, here, settled for an ice cream and a stroll along the river.
The
weather was warm and sunny at first, cloudy and humid later and as we arrived
near home at Keelham farm shop we had a ‘refreshing’ shower.
All
this waffle means – you guessed it – few birds.
It was pleasing to see many Sand Martin buzzing
around looking for potential nest sites.
I’d have guessed at 20 Sand Martin , Sue put the
figure at nearer 40 – very difficult to count accurately.
I tried to get some photographs but they are
amazingly difficult to catch.
Just a few overfed Mallard on the big pond with 3
Black Headed Gull.
A Drake Goosander flew overhead soon out-of-sight, being
swallowed up buy the riverside trees. A Moorhen was well camouflaged on the
pebbles and also on the pebbles 2 Pied Wagtail looking in great shape.
There were a few Chiffchaff and Willow Warblers
singing and not a lot else.
Bird wise it was a bit disappointing, but the toffee
ice cream was delicious.
Some evidence of the low water table
