Ogden Hike

Sue dropped me at Ogden today on her way to pick up Abigail after school.
I thought I’d give the Wood Warbler a try but I should have lowered my expectations somewhat!

13:40 – 16:30

I enjoyed a good hike around the water and up Ogden Clough across the bridge, and round and eventually going back through the woods.
The water has been a disappointment for me this year and today was no exception, with just a few Mallard, 4 Canada Goose and 2 Heron here.
The woods held the usual Willow Warbler & Chiffchaff with lots of singing Wren and many a Robin.

The others Warblers were not playing ball – no Blackcap or Whitethroat seen.
I heard the faintest call of a Cuckoo as I went up Ogden Clough.
So faint in fact, that when I did not hear a further call all day, I decided I must have dreamt the first call up!!

A LBBG went overhead and there were Woodpigeon and a Skylark about – I was really struggling for birds today.

A Red Grouse and 3 Curlew were seen across moor land.

On the homeward journey via Cow Hill Gate Lane there was a Pied Wagtail flypast and 2 Linnet were singing from the field walls.

Just 2 Swallows were seen on Taylor Lane – don’t remember seeing any Swallow before these, on today's walk!!
