Bradshaw – Soil Hill
16:30
– 18:00 (ish)
After a day or two without wearing the walking boots
I was getting a bit restless today.
We
had, had an enjoyable hour or so at Shibden Park with Emma and Abigail this
morning – there was a Great Spotted Woodpecker, Male Tufted Duck, a few Coots,
Mallards, Juv. Coot, and Swans with Cygnets seen/heard as we played in the park.
I got the opportunity for a walk, when Sue offered
to drop Emma at Sowerby Bridge and Abigail at Heckmondwike, without my
involvement, so I could go and look for my marbles on Soil Hill that Sue was certain I'd lost.
The awful heavy drizzle had stopped, or so I thought,
so I went up Taylor Lane to Soil Hill.
Soil Hill was quite wet on my arrival and positively
very wet on my departure.
A
Russian farmer type was tending to a very sick looking “Heifer” to the left of the
Soil Hill track.
As
I approached him he looked forlornly at me and asked:-
“Are
you VET perhaps?”
"Am I VET? - Am I VET?"
"Am I VET? - Am I VET?"
“Yes”
I replied – “I’m absolutely pi**ed through”.
There was just Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Starling,
Linnet, Lapwing and Curlew – all getting a good soaking up here.
A miserable trip down the north side tree line did
not bring me any solace – just a very wet looking Linnet sitting in a low bush.
Ah well – beats watching the footie (for me anyway).
Some nice wet grass along the path
The north slope tree line
A deserted north side pond
Lapwing - far, far off
Lapwing far off
A wet looking Linnet
This Meadow Pipit was singing.
Seemed to have a different song?
I have lightened it (below) just in case....
