After a bit of catching up at home, following our holiday
on the Isle of Wight I managed an hour or so on Soil Hill this afternoon.
Dull and cloudy mostly with nuisance drizzle now and
then.
There was no sign of the Little Owls in the 2
regular places.
No birdsong on Soil Hill which was spookily quiet.
A guy came off soil Hill, walking an Alsatian,he passed me on the main track this may have had a bearing on the lack of birdlife?
I kept to the main track today and there were Black
Headed Gull and a few Lesser Black-backed gull passing overhead with several
BHG in the fields.
3 groups of 8 or so Starling and a c100 group were seen.
Just Pheasant, 6 Meadow Pipit and a Whitethroat (carrying
food) were on the hill with a few other sp.
2 noisy Mistle Thrush were calling at the top of
Taylor Lane.
One of the Mistle Thrush (perhaps a juv.) made the usual call regularly but it also made a more squeaky call just a couple of times. I've not witnessed this call before?
I enjoyed a nice chat with a lady at Railes House on the bridleway as
I approached home.
Great to get some Whitethroats feeding young John. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteHope you're getting prepared for the nettle beds in a few weeks time !
I've been up Soil Hill this evening via Taylor Lane, looking fot Cuckoo. Loads and loads of nettles about, and Woodpigeon but no Cuckoo. Quiet up there.
