Bradshaw - Oats Royd.
I enjoyed the usual walk today, down through Bradshaw Park and down and around Oats Royd.
After lunch, I waited a long time for the rain to pack in , but decided in the end to get wet.
The sun did eventually come onto the pitch, but was soon substituted.
With the recent sightings of Black Redstart,I thought I'd take a look down the track were I spotted one - years ago now.
I sang a little ditty by Mary Hopkins as I went a-looking.
Those were the days my friends.
Bradshaw Park.
Usual birds:- Wren, Blue Tit, 4 Chaffinch, Mistle Thrush, Blackbird ....corrrr!
Oats Royd.
Rook, Song Thrush, Moorhen, Bullfinch, Wren, 2 Goldcrest.
The 'highlight' of a poor show was that of a large 'Game Bird or Wader' that flushed, probably from the trees, next to the stream as I walked north along the path.
The bird flushed with "noisy wings" but no call, it kept low flying in a 'horseshoe' - going away before turning back to disappear low into the bushes on the hillside.
I'd discounted Pheasant, Partridge and Grouse and was left with Woodcock.
A look at the Collins Bird Guide made me believe it was a Woodcock. (The description I'd written in my notes matched the Collins - spooky).
If so, it's a lifer for me - but absolutely no chance of a picture.
Some astounding photos:-
Ambler Thorn from Middle Scholes farm
Astounding or what!!
