I took the car to Ogden today - it looked like rain, felt like rain and tasted like rain (the weather not the car).
It was nice to meet Larry, a new Halifax birder, originally from Wexford "some years back".
The first circuit started with a nice treat, Pr. Tufted Duck
The usual birds were in attendance Cormorant, c70 Small Gulls,2 Lesser Black-backed Gull.
A Raven called overhead but I did not eyeball it.
The first circuit had a decent smattering of passerines - a group of c6 Goldcrest, 6 Long Tailed Tit, a couple of Coal Tit ( probably more), and a few Great Tit were moving through the trees together.
The darkness of the day did not help seeing the birds - my excuse.
A small flock, c10-15, Chaffinch were extremely mobile in the North-East corner - I did not eyeball any Brambling alas and the larger flock , reported earlier by Larry, never came my way.
Other birds: Heron, Jay, 2 Dunnock, Wren, Robins, a couple of separate calls from Bullfinch and a sighting of a F. Bullfinch as it crossed the path before the 'Nuthatch' tree.
2 Mistle Thrush flew SE over the prom. and heavy rain turned up, as I began my 2nd lap.
Not a lot seen second time around but a Great Spotted Woodpecker called from the conifers, beyond the centre/shop building.
A stroll towards the call and a good scan with the bins revealed .... conifers.
Any chance of Crossbill this year?
Spot the Chaffinch
