After Sue had spent this morning, with her dad at Marks & Spenser , and I'd had a walk on Soil Hill, Sue decided that she would like to have a circuitous walk and end up at the Moorlands for tea.
We went via Raggalds, Deep Lane, Squirrel Lane, Crag Lane, Thornton Road and Keighley Road.
A large flock of c135 lapwing were airborne above the Raggalds.
Raggalds Flood held the 3 Teal seen this morning plus 2 Mallard and one Small Gull - I think the bird asleep on the right is a F. Mallard anyway.
Near the farm shop I got a picture of a talented plastic bag doing a decent impersonation of a Heron.
The vegetable Spoil Heap on Deep Lane was providing a good few Corvids with some food.
There was a huge flock of Starling in the field opposite here and a good few House Sparrow in the bushes.
Pick of the birds seen, were 6 Red Legged Partridge seen from Thornton Road as I looked across towards Denholme Cricket Pitch.
It was dark as we arrived at the Moorlands and a Raptor flew high over the trees - a Sparrowhawk I suspect - but it was too dark to tell really.
MALLARD
A different view of Soil Hill - from Thornton Road
I could not begin to estimate the number of Starlings here
