With Waxwing reports in Halifax and Ilkley, I was hoping one might come my way here today, but I did not eyeball one.
There were many birds about on a cold crisp day, and the sun ventured out for the last couple of hours of the walk.
Goldfinch were 'everywhere' along with Blackbirds.
There were a good few , nervy, Redwing and even given their medium size, they were difficult to spot and photograph.
A couple of Moorhen and 2 F Goosander were on the water and a M. Goosander flew over later on.
A Kingfisher made a marvellous flypast with bright sunlight bouncing off its vivid colours .
Also seen were, Goldcrest, 3 Nuthatch, 3 Bullfinch, Greenfinch, Long Tailed Tit, 6 Mistle Thrush (2 were constantly arguing), 2 Song Thrush, Jay and Siskin.
A Kestrel stood lookout on the Darmart chinmey.
I had a pleasant conversation with a mature lady birdwatcher who was telling me about her 40X zoom Cannon pocket camera that she has. It was a replacement for one that she had managed to LOB into the canal as she tried to removed her glove.
There was another lady birdwatcher on the canal who kindly pointed out the Siskin area to me.
An enjoyable 5 hours stroll.
Spot the Jay

Glad you had a nice walk John and the weather stayed pleasant for you, nice one with the Siskinnot seen one up here for a while.Your Parakeet's back mate Nigel K seen one up Queensbury.
ReplyDeleteCheers Dave.
ReplyDeleteThe Parakeet seems to be quite a hardy bird so let's hope it gets through the winter. Better still NK's bird is a different one to the Bradshaw and there is a pair - bit of company for both of them.
John
I know the feeling with the camera. Lost 1 SLR and lens at Ogden. Wrecked 1 SLR and lens plus a scope on Soil hill going waist deep in muddy water, and broke another 2 SLRs with dropping them.
ReplyDeleteThink the Parakeets are different birds with the Bradshaw bird still on location, the Ogden bird I got, and todays bird which has been about at least a month.
Nice area, Bingley ,John.
