Soil Hill - Day of the Fieldfare

12:30 - 14:00 (ish)

After yesterdays thick fog, it was a much brighter day today.
I had the usual walk up to and around Soil Hill via Taylor Lane and Perseverance Road this aft.
I bumped into DB who was coming down from Soil Hill.
Enjoyed the chat, Daniel, good luck Monday!

Soil Hill's potential was marred by a man walking his Alsatian along the east side mounds. He was there for a good while.

A Stock Dove was seen by White Castle Brewery fields.

2 Little Owl were picked up, one by Taylor Lane fields and the other on the Combined Harvester.

The Grey Wagtail was feeding in the Midden area.

3 flocks of Fieldfare (c60, c30, c120) flew  over head as I turned up the main track.

In fact it was Fieldfare day with sightings of them again looking towards Ogden from the west side, and a large flock, seen later, feeding in the fields by Taylor Lane.

I dropped some Nyger Seed on the track but only managed 3 Meadow Pipit, whatever else was there would have been flushed by the dog I guess.

A couple of Wren were seen on Ned Hill Track.
A large flock (Possibly 200 ??) 'black' birds were seen , a long way off , as I looked towards Ogden.

These too were Fieldfare , all part art of the same gang no doubt.
There were so many different flocks seen it is impossible to say how many Fieldfare were out and about!

A couple of Redwing were on the wires.

Looking towards Roper Lane from Taylor Lane, on the return journey, a large flock of lapwing were airborne.

(On the way to the farm shop, earlier, a Mistle Thrush sat on a wall on the Bonnet, in the mist and Raggalds Flood was bereft of life).

  1. Unusual sighting this time of year John. Must have been due to the fog banks.
