√Bradshaw - Soil Hill

12:30 - 14:00

It was a very cold morning with a temperature of -2.

I had decided on just a short stroll, up the bridleway opposite our house to look for the Little Owl, and back.

Anyway, the weather was not too bad and somehow I ended up on Soil Hill (knowing I was wasting my time) hoping for Snow Bunt.

Near home, I located the Little Owl, miles away, on a wall behind Brandy Hall.
Also hereabouts there were 2 Mistle Thrush and a Redwing.

The combined harvester, on Perseverance Road , and surrounding walls failed to reveal it's resident Little Owl though.

Soil Hill was pretty cold ....  pretty and cold , with frosted grass and a chilly breeze,  giving it a lovely cold glow.

A saunter around got me a few pretty pics but there were no birds here as far as I could see (not surprising really).

At least a Wren was kind enough to go bombing about on the Ned Hill Track wall.

The Taylor Lane Little Owl also failed to materialise.

From Taylor Lane , some Lapwings were visible on the Bonnet Fields. so I took a walk up the Bonnet towards the Raggalds Pub hoping to catch a Golden Plover in amongst them.

There were c75 Lapwing in the 3 fields with c130 Starlings, 4 Mistle Thrush and a Fieldfare - Eutopia compared to Soil Hill. The Golden Plover, however will have to wait 'till another day.

c10 Goldfinch landed in the trees opposite our house and c15 Canada Geese came into land on Batty's pond as I got home.

The Blackbirds and Mistle Thrush outside our house are on their 3rd lot of  Meal Worms today - I don't get it - January is diet month, according to Sue.

At least I don't have to look at the  bird books and scratch my wee head , in an effort to ID a Herring Gull or a distant Raptor today - so , even on a bad day, Soil Hill has it's good points!

A very enjoyable couple of hours out and about today.
