Hurst Wood - Canal - River stroll

We had a visit to Hurst Wood this morning.
It was cool and breezy with a visit from a sharp shower keeping us moving along.

The wood was quiet, no Woodpecker calls or drumming - maybe because of the wind?

2 or 3 Nuthatch were calling with the usual Tits, Chaffinch etc.

A nice surprise was that of a bird that caught the corner of my vision as it landed on the back of a tree trunk nearby. I thought for one exciting moment that it might be a Lesser Pecker - it turned out to be a Treecreeper.
Nonetheless  I was pleased that I managed a photo.

2 Male Goosanders were asleep on the riverbank and 2 more were seen by the rowing club.

The water treatment works had the usual Pied Wagtails feeding with a Grey Wagtail also seen.
The advent of the rain and the obtrusive fencing hampered the pics somewhat.

A Grey Wagtail was seen on the side of a very full and fast running river Aire.

I was looking forward to a cooked breakfast (something I don't usually have). However, a visit to our usual cafe was curtailed as they were 'too busy for breakfasts'!!
We ended up in the Salts Mill complex cafe and the sausage and mash went down a treat.

20 Canada Geese and a couple of Greylags were by the park cricket pitch / canal area.

Along the canal Redwing were chattering in the trees - possibly getting ready to leave our shores??

Not a bad saunter about, even if the rain dampened things a bit.

A Joke:

A lady thief was caught shoplifting an expensive watch,by the manager of a jewellers.
"Why don't I pay you for the watch and we can keep the police out of it"  pleaded the thief.
The manager agreed and told her the price.
"oh" she replied "Do you have anything a little cheaper?"

I hope you like Treecreepers!!
