It was a bright and sunny morning up here with the mist visible, in the distance, hanging over Halifax.
As the morning passed the mist slowly encroached, like a door-to-door salesman that no on wants to see.
Eventually the sun succumbed.
It was even worse in Shipley, where we had a shop to visit late morning.
Here, after bright sunshine above Wilsden, we dropped down in thick fog and -1 degrees.
This aft. we parked at the swimming baths on Swalesmoor Road and did a circular walk down Hag Lane and back round.
Afterwards, Sue drove home and I decided to walk back to Bradshaw.
Walk:
I set of over Ringby Top, where the track is extremely muddy, at the end of the bridleway I crossed the road at the Queensbury border and went down Crooked Lane.
Some kind soul has mistaken this lovely cobbled lane for the Waste Disposal Depot , and, half way down, dropped all manner of stuff on it.
A real eyesore and a great pity , as I think this lane is on the official Calderdale Way Path.
I followed the Calderdale Way above Holdsworth House and followed my nose home from there.
Birds:
Not a great birding day, even by my standards, today.
But with a few miles to walk I did not dawdle as much as I would have liked.
I did not do justice to Ringby Top and might try Ringby Top again, tomorrow, if the weather is ok.
Hag Lane area - I Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming and I calling.
4 Jay and 12 Redwing.
Ringby Top was very windy in places and a bit disappointing.
I did dawdle here a bit hoping for Bunting of any variety.
There were '100's' of Corvids just 1 Meadow Pipit (struggling against the wind) a flock of Starling and plenty of Common Gulls taking the breeze.
Not a lot seen on the way home - 20 Redwing were in the fields by Holdsworth House, was about all.

Looking back to the Ski Slope - muddy - but a lot worse to come

Crooked Lane - a better bit of it.
Even the Robin of the day took some getting

ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the walk - there is room on the path side to get out of the mud most of the way.
