14:50 - 17:40
The usual jaunt this afternoon.
A Swallow passed overhead as I headed up Bradshaw Lane and a Blackbird looked to have plenty for tea and a Pheasant , unusually, in the Bonnet fields.
Possibly 2 Stock Dove also, difficult to tell.
Raggalds Flood had 2 birders in cars by the roadside, Geoff (Jeff?) and another chap I did not know.
A good search for Ringed Plover failed to produce any.
I did catch sight of 3 Wheatear and 3 Pied Wagtail.
I had a quick chat with B.S. who was passing and then I headed up Perseverance Road to Soil Hill.
Soil Hill.
Soil Hill was unusually calm and actually warm later on!
Just the usual birds, really, here today.
9 Canada Geese, Lapwing, Meadow Pipit, Skylark.
A calling Curlew, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls - miles off , near Denholme Cricket Pitch (as was).
A Single Wheatear , again very distant, as I scanned North East.
2 , distant ,Linnet were flitting about in the small bushes.
A Blackbird sized bird (but not a Blackbird) flew low and landed in the North West side tree line.
I went down the tree line and picked it out with the bins, obscured by the trees, on a fence post in typical Ouzel fashion.
Swapping to the camera I tried to focus but could not get onto the bird for the trees.
To get the camera to focus, I had to focus on the very bottom of the fence post and scan upwards to the bird - which by now - had gone!
There was white apparent on the bird, but with no picture and such a poor sighting I'm still awaiting a Ring Ouzel tick this year.
Leaving Ned Hill Track a couple of Linnet were on the telephone wires.
Just a Swallow seen overhead as I came down the Bonnet towards home.
Very distant Linnet.
Coming down to Ned Hill Track
