A fair old hike this afternoon.
Sue dropped me at Per Lane, Keighley Road.
I followed the Calderdale Way down through Stod Fold and up the steep, killer Hunter Hill.
A good nosy around here, before retracing my steps to Hunter Hill bottom then a left to follow a thin path to Ogden Golf course.
A nosy around here and then down to the main track by the maintenance buildings before passing below the club house and across the moor to the Ogden - Withens bridleway.
A left uphill here, was soon followed by a right across a stile into the woods.
A good, look see, through the woods, eventually coming back to Ogden Water.
A walk along the east side of the water, with a quick detour to look for the Kingfisher/ Dipper from the Prom then up through the car park.
Across the fields to cross back lane and into Another World adventure centre to exit opposite Coal Lane.
Along Coal Lane, Ned Hill Track , Percy Road, Taylor Lane and Bradshaw Lane home.
Birds:-
2 Swift, 9 Swallow, Curlew calling, Lapwing, Meadow Pipit, Skylark, 3 Mistle Thrush,5 Linnet.
Pheasant, Poss Tree Pipit, Willow Warbler.
Ogden Water was full of cars and folk and very quiet birdwise.
6 Canada Geese and a few Mallard on the water.
A Common Gull (I think) on the 'podium'.
Change of mind - Juv. Lesser Black-backed Gull (16/05/17).
The trek through Ogden woods paid dividends with a Cuckoo heard very close by and then heard for a good 30 minutes as it called and moved north up the clough.
No sightings of the bird alas.
4 Lesser Black backed Gull overhead.
Owls:
A good evening for Owls with a Little Owl seen in a new location for me and 2 Large Owls also seen along the way in different locations.
They both had very large wingspan, and I decided to go for a picture rather than bins, which, with hindsight might have been the wrong choice because I did not discern the 'eye colour'.
The first Owl was flying right for me - I knelt down and took 5 photos as it passed - I don't believe the photos - no Owl - just a lot of wall - how on earth did that happen - DOH.
The second Owl was very distant, the picture is poor,
Pleasing to see Owls out and about - the locations have been withheld to protect them from any interference.
Shibden park - earlier
Mixenden Res.
Owls:
Well done with the Owls John, I'm still waiting to hear a Cuckoo, my usual spot keeps drawing a blank.
