The weather was pleasant and the place had lots of visitors.
We forked out our £10 for parking and we did the usual trip up river to the bridge and back down t'other side to the Cavendish Pavilion.
We went in to the cafe for a coffee but at £2.75 decided to give it a miss.
Not a bad outing, by any means, but I was disappointed with some of the photos.
On the way home from Bolton Abbey we stopped off at Haworth where the 1940's weekend was just winding down.
Sue did a detour to Leeshaw Reservoir so I could have a quick walk down the main track and back, before we headed home for tea.
Birds:
Bolton Abbey:
Pied Wagtail, 5 Female Goosander, one mum Goosander playing taxi with her young, 13 Mandarin Duck, Heron, 5 Grey Wagtail, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, several Pied Flycatcher, 2 Nuthatch, Chiffchaff.
We were standing, talking with 2 other birders, when one of them heard a Redstart, singing from a tree on the opposite banking.
With 3 pairs of powerful binoculars, a big bertha camera and a bridge camera the 'birders - including me' would be expected to spot the elusive bird - but no - Sue spotted it with the naked eye.
Blatant show off, that's what she is.
5 Dipper, Curlew calling from the moors, Treecreeper, Common Sandpiper, Black Headed Gull, Mallard and a few others.
There were a good few Spotted Flycatcher about according to a couple of birders we chatted to but we failed to spot any.
Just one possible Wood Warbler heard early on, but the song was only heard once.
A few other birders remarked that they had not seen or heard Wood Warbler - which is unusual.
Leeshaw - a short look.
Greylag Geese, Lapwing with chicks, Curlew, Heron, Redshank,
possible Redshank with young - but too far off to be sure.
Anyway the Redshank was giving a Rabbit some grief.
I have posted most of the pictures as bad as they are in case I have a Whimbrel.
One bird does show a faint eye stripe but I did not manage to get a head-on view, I fairly sure it's a Curlew.
Oystercatcher, Tree Pipit.
