11:15 - 12:30.
A short meander through Oak woodland near Birdcage Hill, led to a walk along the river Calder.
The dense woodland was not revealing many secrets - just a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Nuthatch calling nearby - neither seen.
The walk by the river was a tad better.
2 Heron, Cormorant that sat on a branch above the water before diving in - I've not seen that behaviour previously.
A couple of Jay were 'calling' and a family of Wren were flitting about.
The highlight of the outing was a Dipper on the rocks - not seen one of these for a while.
Moorhen, a few Long Tailed Tit also seen.
A few Canada Geese overhead.
Ogden.
16:50 - 19:00
A very breezy outing, especially by the golf course.
The lower path from Union Lane along the river is very overgrown at the moment.
Golf Course:
4 Goldfinch, 2 Kestrel, Swallow!
Ogden Water:
Usual contingent of Gulls.
Plenty of Black Headed and Lesser Black-backed.
c6 Common and I could definitely ID one Herring Gull!
2 Cormorant, A Green Woodpecker called, Jay.
Home via the lanes - 6 Linnet & Pied Wagtail.
Maybe I'll try Specsavers instead of Bottomely's opticians next time I need some new specs!!
River Calder Area:
Ogden:
Elusive Jay
Put this on me head.
From distance it might look like a hare
Nice one with the Dipper John
