Sue dropped me at the Swalesmoor Ski Slope this aft on her way to town.
A dull and very still day today.
14:10 Ringby Lane.
A few Gulls and Corvids about here.
A family of Dunnock.
An unid small bird, Reed Bunting like with dark brown / cream herringbone pattern on the back, dived down into the Willow Herb not to re-appear.(Ho Hum).
A good build up of small birds here at the moment.
Difficult to estimate but...
c100 Linnet, probably the same number Goldfinch.
The 'Barren field next to the big gate" has been re-seeded with grass 4" high now.
Any birds feeding in it were hard to see.
Probably 30+ Meadow Pipit with a small number (10 ish) Pied Wagtail.
A Wheatear was a pleasing 'spot' as it sat with some Linnet on a wall.
15:10 Crooked Lane.
Keatrel, 2 Green Woodpecker called.
16:00 Holdsworth Area:
A few Swallow.
Kestrel carrying prey.
2 Jay.
Oats Royd:
Jay, Moorhen, Green Woodpecker calling.
Near the park after leaving Oats Royd a young girl was in a garden with a yelping dog.
The dog was yelping at me.
She saw me and spoke to the yelper in a really posh voice
"Violet, do come here - It's just an old man".
Some days birding is so,so tough.
(Now, where did I put that tissue, sob).
Bradshaw Area:
c30 Goldfinch in the park.
Sparrowhawk very high and distant.
17:15 Bonnet Hall Area - Bradshaw.
Buzzard overhead.
17 Canada Geese.
A couple of Common Gull.
A cracking Little Owl.
I have invested in (another) bird book today.
"Shorebirds of the Northern Hemisphere" by Richard Chandler.
All I have to do now is go and find 'em.
(Oh and tell them apart).
??
The 'Barren' field
A Large Flock in the distance
Crooked Lane:
Holdsworth:
Looking back to Ringby Top from Oats Royd track
Bradshaw Area:
High and distant Sparrowhawk
'Gloomy' Buzzard
My Little Pal.
Good to get a Wheatear up there John. Not been up there this last week but pleased to see the Linnet are there still in good force. Shame about 'the grass' !!!
