Southport

A few days away this week at Southport that coincided with the autumn influx of Pink Footed Geese.
We also had a trip to Formby and Crosby the details and a few photos can be found to the right of this blog ------>>>> .

Skien after skien of Geese came over Tuesday evening and also on Wednesday as well.
20 + large skeins were seen and as darkness fell they could still be heard overhead.

A trip to the local nature reserve (RSPB Marshside) on Wednesday revealed the massive number of Pinkies 5,000+ that had arrived.

Another unusual sight was that of a Common Scoter sitting on the beach near the main road.
The bird was probably exhausted by the recent storms and was trying to recover.

When we passed the spot, later. where the bird had been seen, it was pleasing to see the bird had gone – hopefully of its own volition.

Shelduck had recently arrived as well.
I estimated that there was in excess of 1,000 Shelduck here.

Other Birds:-

Gadwall, Little Grebe, Shoveler, Wigeon. Black Tailed Godwit.
Redshank, Little Egret, Curlew.
Mute Swan, Herring Gull. Black Headed Gull,Great Black-backed Gull.
A very dark Pipit seen along the shore soon left.
I cannot ID the bird but it looks too dark to be a Meadow Pipit.
Lapwing.
Teal
Lots of Starling.

An probably a lot more that I've missed.
