Ogden

13:30 - 15:00

I had a short visit to Ogden today.
My timing was pretty good, weather wise, after heavy, squally showers during the day I picked a relatively dry slot to go walk about.

The water is now plentiful again with all the recent rain.

There was nothing special here today, as far as I could tell.

There were c35 Small Gulls at one point with 1 Lesser-Black Backed Gull and a Cormorant.

A nice bonus was a pr. Widgeon seen at distance on the water and picked out later, feeding at the water's edge.

The call of nature took me into the woods (the loo not guaranteed to be unlocked these days).

11 or so small birds were feeding high up in the dark tree canopy.
I thought I'd caught up with the Redpoll flock again, but after checking through my many murky pics, they were all Goldfinch.

A Mistle Thrush was in trees outside my house when I got home.

Manx Shearwater - August 2018.

It appears that I've dropped an ID clanger with my Manx S. sighting - the bird was actually a Guillemot!

Thanks, Andrew, for pointing it out to me - I really appreciate it, and it's pleasing to know you look at the blog.

I'm sure this won't be my last ID clanger!

On the down side it's one less lifer for me, but on the up side I have the pleasure of seeing a Manx S. for the first time (again)!!

Cheers - John.
