A very enjoyable stroll from one Bridge to another.
A sparkling day today with bright sunshine.
A tad on the cool side, especially in Hebden where the frosty fields had a spooky, low mist, hanging over them.
The light was great for a change and the reflections in the canal were something special.
Birds:-
Last year I never eyeballed a Brambling - this year they are popping up more frequently than Chaffinch!
A good few small groups of Brambling were seen today.
One Brambling or maybe Chaffinch looks to have a white band on it's tail??
I think it is a trick of the light and a reflection off a branch.
A Kingfisher was very kind to us.
After I spotted it, it kept flying ahead by 200 yds before landing.
It did this 3 or 4 times before heading off to the river.
A group of Long Tailed Tit were flitting along the canal side with small groups of Redwing seen throughout the walk.
A good few numbers of Blackbird with maybe 5 Mistle Thrush were seen.
Just one Fieldfare was seen, in Sowerby Bridge, opposite Lidl.
Other birds along the canal were c20 Canada Geese and 4 Goosander.
Over 100 Woodpigeon were seen feeding in large groups.
A Kestrel was seen from the bus ride back to Sowerby B. from Hebden B.
A really enjoyable outing, after being tied up for the past few days, with moving Sue's dad to a nursing home and sorting out his rented apartment at Ing Royde.
Best wishes for a Happy Christmas - thanks for looking in during the year, and a special thank you for the comments.
Good comments or not so good comments , they all help me with bird IDs.
I'm getting better at the ID's - I just need to live to 100 to (nearly) master it.
Still time for a Snow Bunting before the new year.
I see there is a new Bridge camera out.
The Canon Powershot SX70.
It's about the right weight for me to lug about and looks to have a good spec.
I just need to get one - for about £200 less than the current asking price.
If someone buys you one for Christmas, and it's not what you want I'll make you an offer for it!!
Do you think the old Microwave spoils the effect - or is it my Banksy moment?
White tail stripe - a trick of the light.
Spot the Kingfisher
Mum - you've given me too much dinner!
Frost along the side of the canal.
Love that first shot John, shame about the microwave ! Nice to be getting Brambling pretty regular, lovely birds and good to make the most of them as they are so scarce some winters.
ReplyDeleteAll the best for the New Year - see you sometime.
Thanks Dave - very unusual reflections in the canal.
ReplyDeleteWaxwing are next on my list.
Happy New Year.
