A Heron was on the Calder at Sowerby Bridge and a few Mistle Thrush were on the wires at Baitings Res.
The path around the lake was frozen and slippery, a no go area for the wheelchair today.
Sue took Emma to the visitors centre cafe while I had a quick walk around the lake.
Afterwards we called at The Beach Pub, overlooking the lake.
A small carvery is excellent value at £5 and just right for grown ups that don't want to grow any more!
Birds:
11:30 - 12:30
Not a bad outing given the cold weather.
3 Goosanders (1 drake).
Coot, 2 Great Crested Grebe, Tufted Duck.
Gadwall, Wigeon, Cormorant, Mallard.
The Jetty Area:
A very noisy squabbling, hungry gang of Black Headed Gull.
A few Common Gull and one 1st Winter Herring Gull.
Mute Swan, Canada Geese.
A couple of Herring Gulls and one Lesser Black-backed Gull passed by.
Not a bad do for an hour's outing.
1st Winter Herring Gull.
Considerably larger than the Gulls around it.
Struggled with this for a bit.
But I think its a First Winter Common Gull.
A noisy scene
Nice to get a Gadwall John. Wish we could get some round here, though I have had one at Mixenden some time ago.
ReplyDeleteGood to work the Common Gull out as well.
Thanks Dave.
ReplyDeleteSurprised to get Gadwall, a lovely bird.
Apart from Ogden I don't get to many Calderdale reservoirs so my local wildfowl ticks are few.
Still short of a Greylag Goose!
The light blue/grey on the C. Gull was lost in the snowy background on one pic. I thought I'd got a Med Gull for a bit. Wishful thinking.
